ArtPrize held their Volunteer Kick-Off Rally last night at 55 Campau in downtown Grand Rapids.

The rally was meant as a thank you to current volunteers and also as an opportunity to draw further attention to the need for more volunteers.

About 1,000 total volunteers are needed for ArtPrize.  ArtPrize remains a few hundred short of that goal.

ArtPrize also used the volunteer party to unveil their "Vote Art 2012" campaign.  The campaign is playfully meant to give ArtPrize fans another choice this fall.  Mlive.com reports:

“We want to offer you an alternative,” declared Todd Herring, ArtPrize marketing director. “We want all of you to vote art in 2012.”

The tongue-in-cheek nod to the upcoming 2012 elections taps into the politicking mood of the country heading to the voting booth in November, and ArtPrize played up the political rally theme on Wednesday evening at its volunteer kickoff party in Riverfront Plaza, 55 Campau Ave. NW downtown.

“It’s playful, and I hope you get a kick out of it,” said Amelea Pegman, ArtPrize community/volunteer director, to an audience of a couple hundred who gathered for the event in the industrial setting on the building's fifth floor.

Please consider volunteering for ArtPrize 2012.  The deadline to sign up is September 12.
