ArtPrize Closes Venue Registration, Opens Artist Registration, Names New Executive Director

Registration to be an ArtPrize venue closed on April 11 with 154 confirmed venues.

More venues have been added since the closing of registration after receiving a site visit from ArtPrize.

The number of venues currently stands at 186.

Now, it's the artist's turn to register.

It's been a busy couple of weeks for ArtPrize: the closing of venue registration, the opening of artist registration, and the naming of Christian Gaines as their new executive director.

NEW EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Hyperallergic.com spoke with ArtPrize's new executive director:

Gaines, whose background is in film festival management, has previously worked for IMDb.com, the American Film Institute, and the American Pavilion at Cannes. Hyperallergic spoke to Gaines earlier today to discuss his plans for the organization, host to one of the largest contemporary art prizes in the world.
Though conceding that film is “obviously a different medium than contemporary art,” Gaines believes “there are some similarities and areas of expertise [he] can bring — hopefully some commonalities.”

ARTIST REGISTRATION

Artist registration began on April 22 for ArtPrize 2013, it will close on June 6. Artists and venue "connections" run April 29 - June 20.
