As artists, venues, and event organizers prepare for the competition, some artists are seeking to fund their projects through Kickstarter.

Seeking funding through Kickstarter for an ArtPrize entry is nothing new.

ArtPrize's Kickstarter page shows funding projects each year since 2011.

Some notable projects and artists have used Kickstarter to raise money for ArtPrize.

In 2011, Tracy Van Duinen earned $15,338 for "MetaPhorest," a 2,400 square foot multimedia mural. The piece finished in second place and won $100,000.

Also in 2011, Alois Kronschlaeger earned $2,000 in pledges for his entry "Spire". The next year Kronschlaeger returned to ArtPrize with "Habitat", which won the juried award for best two-dimensional entry. The juried award win was worth $20,000.

In 2012, Gary Field's entry "A Second Chance at Life, The T-Rex Project", a life-size sculpture of a T-rex skeleton, earned $5,365 in pledges.

Last year, Ryan C. Doyle and Teddy Lo earned $7,819 on Kickstarter for their fire-breathing dragon entry.
