Today is another big reveal for ArtPrize 2014.

The public votes are in, and the top 20 gets announced this afternoon at Rosa Parks Circle.

Today (Sunday, Oct. 5) is the 12th day of ArtPrize's 19-day run, with 1,825 artists represented by 1,537 entries at 174 venues in downtown Grand Rapids and Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park.

The final 20 announcement is at 2 p.m. today at Rosa Parks Circle, 135 Monroe Avenue NW, just west of Grand Rapids Art Museum. ArtPrize founder Rick DeVos and executive director Christian Gaines announce the top five entries in two-dimensional, three-dimensional, time-based and installation categories as determined by public voting between noon Sept. 24 and 11:59 p.m. Saturday in ceremonies sponsored by Consumers Energy.

There were 352,732 votes cast in the first round of public voting, according to ArtPrize's tabulation. Round Two voting for the public starts at 3 p.m. and runs through

The public voting determines a $200,000 grand prize winner, with another $200,000 grand prize selected from the jurors' shortlists. There is $560,000 in prize money being awarded for the sixth annual ArtPrize, with four $20,000 category awards being awarded in the four categories in both public and juried competitions.

Today's Things to Do

There's a range of choices for things to do today:

  • The ArtPrize Hub, 41 Sheldon Boulevard SE offers Family Days Story Time in partnership with Grand Rapids Public Library from noon to 2 p.m. and performance artist Kevin Kammeraad and the Cooperfly Puppet Troupe from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.
  • GRAM Studio ArtPrize Family Days offers hands-on art-making activities and interactive learning spaces in the confines of the Grand Rapids Art Museum from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Kids Art Day provides an opportunity to create create with an ArtPrize artist from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Monroe Community Church, 800 Monroe Avenue NW.
  • With its location in front of Van Andel Arena, the 10-foot high, 18-foot wide three-dimensional installation titled "Love ArtPrize" has been a favorite for photos. The metal, glass and LED-lit structure is by Kiaralinda, of Safety Harbor, Fla. From 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. is another kissing contest at the installation, including last week's kissing contest winner. Van Andel Arena is located at 130 W. Fulton St.
