Artists With Disabilities Have Art Show
Something very cool opened in Grand Rapids yesterday.
Adult artists with disabilities will see their art hanging in a professional art gallery called, ACTion Art Gallery and Exhibition located next door to the host organization, Artists Creating Together (ACT) at 1140 Monroe NW Suite 310. What make it even “more cool” is that artists will experience the thrill of marketing and selling their work to the community at large.
33 artists from West Michigan are participating in the ACTion Art Gallery and Exhibition and have submitted up to three pieces of artwork, providing a small showcase of their unique art. Artist will be assisted in selling their pieces to the public – experiencing the same process as a working artist.
Artwork styles will vary widely and some include: pottery, woodworking, two-dimensional oil paintings, pastel pencils, watercolors and recycled metal. Artwork values begin at $20.
As if that’s not enough, participating artists will be eligible to receive two different awards during ACTion ART:
1. ArtPrize Sponsorship Award: Three winners, selected by a juried vote, will receive a cash prize of $500, and sponsorship of the winning piece in ArtPrize 2013 which will be displayed at the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel.
2. People’s Choice Award: One winner will receive this award at the end of ACTion ART, with public community with voting taking place throughout the exhibit.
