Here are the headlines of a few stories that have been published about Anne Hathaway over the last few years:

Yikes.

Yes, since hosting the Academy Awards in 2011, Hathaway has earned a seemingly unshakable reputation of being unlikable—first, because she was too eager and a bit rehearsed; then, because she was cold and uninviting. Now, as the cover of InStyle's September issue, she's finally learned to shake off the criticism and focus on finding what makes her happy.

"For a very long time I felt I was being hunted, and it made me very unhappy," she told the magazine. "But in the past few years I’ve been working on changing the script inside my head. Life’s too short to be anyone but yourself. Let the chips fall where they may."

Hathaway also said that when she reflects back on some of the more negative press she's received, she's noticed a worrying trend.

"There is a certain type of media that trades on desperation and will paint someone with that filter if it will make them money, whether the story is true or not,” she explained. “["Do We Really Hate Anne Hathaway"] was written by a man. Among the women I’ve worked with and met in my industry, I feel supported."

Tell us what you think of Anne's words, and be sure to pick up the September issue of InStyle for the full interview!
