According to a survey of 7,600 consumers by Market Force Information, Five Guys is the best burger franchise in America.

In fact, Five Guys topped the competition in each of the survey's regions—the Northeast, Midwest, South and West—an impressive feat for a chain which only ventured out of its Washington, D.C.-area base about 10 years ago.

In and Out finished second in overall quality, followed by Fuddruckers, A&W Restaurant and Smashburger.

McDonald's, the franchise that started it all, finished third to last, beating only Jack in the Box and Dairy Queen in overall quality. The golden arches finished dead last in the burger-taste category, another category won by Five Guys.

"Five Guys does zero advertising, but by delivering a consistently great customer experience, they're able to build a word-of-mouth buzz that continues to bring new customers through the door," explained Janet Eden-Harris, chief marketing officer for Market Force.
