Next week West Michigan residents can learn about responding to active shooter situations from authorities in Ottawa County.

The class, Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events, is October 18, 6 to 8:30p.m. inside the Main Conference Room at the Ottawa County Fillmore Complex in West Olive.

The Ottawa County Sheriff's has organized this event following requests from businesses, schools, and other groups about how to respond if confronted with an active shooter.

Organizers say the class will provide strategies, guidance, and a proven plan for surviving an active shooter event.

Participants must be 18 and bring a valid ID.

The class is free, but registration is required here. .
