New legislation motivated by the Kalamazoo shootings back in February, would authorize police to send out alerts to phones when they're aware of a mass shooter.

Rep. Jon Hoadley, from Kalamazoo, told the Detroit Free Press that the bill would allow police departments to come up with criteria for when the alerts would be sent. He believes that the alerts could prevent people from being killed or injured during mass shootings and other dangerous events.

The House approved the bills on Tuesday, they now move on to the Senate for consideration.

Six people were killed and two others were injured on the evening of February 21, when Uber driver Jason Dalton drove around the city, seemingly shooting people at random.
