Humane Society of West Michigan (HSWM) will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony at 11 a.m., Thursday, June 11, to dedicate the Cattery Expansion Project and the BISSELL Cattery Enrichment Center on Thursday, June 11th at 11 am. This ceremony is to thank Mark & Cathy Bissell and all of the generous donors who helped make the project a success. With the amazing support of donors, they were able to add two more cattery living spaces built in the HSWM lobby, a window placed in cat holding, and larger cages for cats in the medical room.

The expansion, and the BISSELL Cattery Enrichment Center, have created spacious and low-stress environments for the kittens and cats in the Humane Society. The cat population has outgrown the cattery over the years and they were forced to house cats in various parts of the building: in the cattery, the medical room, the cat holding area and administrative offices. These spaces were not exactly ideal.

Mark and Cathy Bissell recognized the need for more space for the cats and generously created a matching gift challenge for the cattery expansion. The matching gift challenge called for $25,000 to be raised and the Humane Society exceeded the goal!

This campaign’s completion has provided cats and kittens with more space, which reduces stress and enriches their lives until they are adopted. The expansion also allows adopters to better interact with the cats and kittens in a more natural setting as they will have room to climb, jump and play. Everyone is welcome to celebrate on Thursday, June 11, 2015 at 11:00 a.m.
