According to a new report just released from the Substance Abuse & Mental Health Services Administration, there is a 49 percent increase in emergency department visits for drug-related suicide attempts for women aged 50 and older.  And women aged 40-69 are more at risk of killing themselves than other women.  So what do you think is going on here? There could be a number of reasons for this but one doctor speculates that middle-aged women are more aware of their mortality.  They may have become disappointed and disillusioned that it’s too late for happiness.  But then again with all the divorce issues and kids growing up and leaving the house, these may be a couple of the things linked to the spike.
