Temperatures were a little warmer than hoped for at the 2014 Downtown Holland Ice Sculpting Competition, but the event was still a big success.

Check out some memorable photos from the ice sculpting competition.

The 2014 competition took place January 10 - 11 in downtown Holland.

Warmer temperatures meant the sculptures didn't last as long as wished, but still provided plenty of opportunity to enjoy some amazing work at the annual event which draws student artists from around the Midwest.

DowntownHollandIce.com explained the event:

Downtown Holland partners with the National Ice Carving Association (NICA) to host a Collegiate Invitational Ice Sculpting Competition.  Downtown Holland and NICA will bring talented students from colleges around the Midwest and beyond together for this exciting weekend-long competition.

Over 20 talented students will be competing in the collegiate invitational, each transforming 300-pound blocks of ice into glistening works of art using chisels, chainsaws, torches, and more.
