You don't have to look far to find a major sculpture featuring a horse in Grand Rapids. "The American Horse" at Frederik Meijer Gardens has welcomed visitors since 1999.

Entries featuring horses have seen some success at ArtPrize in the past. In 2012, Richard Morse's "Stick-to-it-ive-ness: Unwavering pertinacity; perseverance" featured horses which appeared to run in the Grand River. The entry earned a fourth place finish in the Public Vote and won $5,000.

This year's entries with horses include paintings, drawings, sculptures, wood carvings and more. One entry addresses the relationship between humans and nature, another captures a moment on the streets of Italy, while another questions the treatment of race horses.
